IMRA NXT Robotic Assisted Hysterectomy Course

The Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy course at IMRA NXT is designed to provide surgeons with comprehensive training in advanced robotic techniques for hysterectomy procedures. Through hands-on sessions with life-like anatomical models and expert guidance, participants will develop their skills in robotic-assisted surgery, focusing on key procedural steps, setup, and optimal techniques. This course is ideal for surgeons looking to expand their expertise and integrate robotic-assisted hysterectomy into their clinical practice.

Course Objectives

This course is designed to advance participants' skills and knowledge in key areas, including:

  • Operating theatre setup for Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy and Myomectomy
  • Case selection for optimal surgical outcomes
  • Safe approaches to robotic gynaecological procedures
  • Essential robotic techniques, tips, and tricks.

Participants will develop these skills through online training modules covering:

  • Introduction to Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy & Myomectomy
  • Case selection and operation setup
  • Essential surgical anatomy
  • Detailed procedural steps

Additionally, hands-on, in-person practice on simulators and several robotic platforms will include:

  • Expert case reviews
  • Detailed procedural steps
  • Practice on virtual simulators to build psychomotor skills
  • Practice directly with surgical robots on our Pindari, life-like hydrogel models
  • 3D stereoscopic case reviews
Course Faculty
Our faculty of leading robotic surgeons will guide you, step-by-step, through the process of performing a Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy. With thousands of gynaecological procedures completed collectively, they will cover everything from operative setup, anatomy, and patient selection to procedural steps, techniques, and complication management.

Dr Adam Pendlebury is a gynaecologist and gynaecological oncologist based in Melbourne, Victoria. He specialises in the surgical management of complex gynaecological conditions, including abnormal cervical screening tests (colposcopy), ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and cancers of the female reproductive system (uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, vagina and vulva). Adam undertook his general training in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg, Melbourne, before completing advanced surgical training in gynaecology and gynaecological oncology at the Mercy Hospital for Women, Melbourne, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Mater Hospital Brisbane, King Edward Memorial Hospital, Perth, as well as the Cleveland Clinic in the US. The emphasis of his training has been on the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques – both laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures.

Dr. Rosie McBain is a Gynaecologist specialising in the prevention and treatment of gynaecologic cancers. Rosie has completed a clinical fellowship in Gynaecological Oncology and earned a Master of Public Health. She has public appointments at the Royal Women's Hospital, Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, and Mercy Hospital for Women.

Dr Chin Yong is a Certified Urogynaecologist and Female Pelvic Floor Reconstruction Surgeon who practices in both private and public hospitals in Melbourne.  Chin aims to raise awareness around pelvic floor issues and develop individualised treatment plans for his patients to improve their quality of life. He employs holistic patient care and frequently collaborates with a multidisciplinary team consisting of pelvic floor physiotherapists and specialist continence nurses, focusing on conservative management of pelvic floor disorders. Dr Yong has a special interest in minimal access surgery and offers various advanced laparoscopic or robotic pelvic floor reconstruction options to his patients.

Dr Pav Nanayakkara is an operative gynaecologist at Jean Hailes for Women’s Health and a robotic surgeon at Epworth Freemasons. She is a consultant with the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Unit and a Clinical Lead of the Ambulatory Gynaecology Unit at The Royal Women’s Hospital and is a RANZCOG training supervisor.

Who Should Attend This Course?

This course is intended for Senior Registrars, Fellows, and Gynaecological Surgeons who wish to commence their robotic surgical training pathway.

Pre-requisite: all attendees need to complete the online eLearning module before the in-person training.

DISCLAIMER: IMRA courses are designed to provide a broad understanding of robotic procedures and may include hands-on training to practice these procedures in a controlled setting. However, participation in these courses does not qualify or certify attendees to perform any medical or surgical procedures independently. It is the responsibility of each participant to consult with their hospital or clinical institution, relevant governing or licensing body, and the appropriate robotic or medical device manufacturer to determine the specific training, certification, and credentialing requirements needed to perform these procedures in clinical practice. Completion of an IMRA course should be viewed as a component of ongoing education and not as authorisation to perform robotic procedures on patients.
